The Samsung Infuse 4G is a new offering in AT&T's line of high-end smartphones. The Infuse 4G is unrelated to Samsung's other high-end smartphone line, Samsung Galaxy S. Fittingly for this new beginning, the Infuse 4G has a number of built-in features that make it unique to the high-end smartphone market.
Samsung infuse accessories also play a significant role in boosting the functionality of the unit.
One of the Infuse's unique features is that it is AT&T’s first device to feature HSPA+ Category 14, an enhanced 3G mobile communications protocol. In theory, the Infuse should be able to reach download data from the Internet at speeds of up to 21 megabytes per second. It also naturally supports the HSUPA protocol, which can reach download speeds of up to 5.76 megabytes per second.
Another unique quality of the Samsung Infuse 4G is its form factor, which is unusually wide but also very thin. The impressive width of the Infuse 4G makes tasks such as typing much easier and more comfortable,
but can be a challenge that
Samsung
Infuse accessories like cases and pouches would need to overcome. More specifically, the width is due to the 4.5 inch Super AMOLED Plus screen. It displays at WVGA resolution, or 480 pixels by 800 pixels. This display is highly saturated and supports the display of 16.7 million colors. This colorful screen is ideal for watching movies, browsing pictures, or playing games. The screen has excellent viewing angles, and because of the way the screen is polarized, it maintains its luminance even in direct sunlight.
The Samsung Infuse 4G uses a 1.2GHz single-core Hummingbird CPU. This is not as powerful as the Motorola Atrix 4G's dual-core processor, it is still highly capable for the vast majority of tasks. The Infuse also includes two cameras, one front-facing camera for normal photography and one back-facing camera for video chat or self-portraits. The front-facing camera has a resolution of 8 megapixels, which seems to be becoming the standard for high-end smartphones. The Infuse 4G should get about 15 hours of battery life under normal usage conditions, although the life could be much shorter when playing games or doing other processing-intensive tasks.
The Google Android-based Infuse allows for a high degree of personalization, thanks to the generous amount of useful built-in widgets available. For example, the Social Updates widget aggregates all content from the user's social networks, such as Twitter and Facebook. Similarly, the Calendar's event system can synchronize with events from Facebook, Google, and Microsoft Outlook.
The Infuse allows for a lot of customization on the outside, as well. It features two microphone jacks, a headphone jack, multiple microSD card slots, and a microUSB port. The microUSB port can be used to charge the Infuse, but it can also be used as a video and data output port.
Samsung Infuse accessories that use the microUSB port can significantly increase the connectivity and ease of use of the Infuse.
